One Team Fundraisers Help All OHS Athletic Teams

By Kate Krauser

The “One Team Fundraiser” is Oak Hall’s yearly all-school fundraiser to support its various athletic teams, in which the majority of Middle and Upper School students participate. To raise money, athletes sell mulch to family and friends, and volunteer at the “One School Family BBQ” on Feb. 21.

Selling mulch used to be a fundraiser for just the boys and girls lacrosse teams, called “Mulch Madness”. Last year, however, it was transformed into an athletics fundraiser to benefit all Oak Hall sports. In order for a specific sport to get credit for a sale, the buyer must indicate the sport and what percentage they want towards each sport if they select multiple. They can also give a student credit by entering the students name. This year, a bag of Pine Nugget Mulch costs $5.50 and contains three cubic feet of mulch. With an order of 10 or more bags, the buyer qualifies for free delivery in the Gainesville area. Bags are delivered in the morning on Feb. 22. Otherwise, bags can be picked up at Oak Hall School from 7:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. that Saturday. Mulch will be available for purchase until Thursday, Feb. 20.

Another athletic fundraiser, “One School Family BBQ”, will be held on the athletic fields at Oak Hall on Feb. 21 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. This event is open to the Gainesville community. Oak Hall Athletic Director Edwin McTureous sees the value of this type of fundraiser, but not just for the monetary gain. “[It’s] a great night for families to get together and have a great night,” he said. Food is provided by Hills BBQ, while an adult beverage tent is sponsored by First Magnitude Brewery, and Gallo Wine and Spirits. There will also be live music performed by The Just Maybe Band. For kids, bounce houses, face painting, a putting contest, and an obstacle course are a few of the activities. Ticket prices vary among ages and are available until Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Finally, Oak Hall One Team T-Shirts are available for purchase online through Feb. 23. A short sleeve shirt costs $27 and a long sleeve shirt costs $35. Shirts will be distributed through advisory groups.
