Book Fair Preview

It’s that time of year again; time for the Oak Hall Book Fair! Sept. 23 marks the beginning of Book Fair Week, which runs through Sept. 27. It will take place at the Faisal Family Media Center in the Lower School and will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

The book fair is a school event that allows parents, students, faculty, staff, and the community to purchase books, posters, and other cool trinkets like erasers. Each year, the book fair has a different theme, and this year’s theme, is “Arctic Adventure”.

It takes a lot of time and energy to set up and run this event, which is organized by Joanna Brailer, Lower School Library Media Specialist, and Evelyn Smith, Middle and Upper School Library Media Specialist. Smith has been running the book fair since her son attended the Lower School (and is currently a junior at Oak Hall). “One of the great things about the book fair is its consistency,” Smith said. “For many of our children and parents, coming to the book fair is like coming home,” she continued.

That being said, there are always new and exciting things that come with each book fair, such as new books, posters, and a new guessing game. The guessing game is an activity that is included in this year’s book fair, which allows students or visitors to win free books.

Volunteers are always welcomed to assist at the book fair, and even Upper School students can assist in this community-wide event. To sign-up as a volunteer, please visit: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/oakhallschool1
